Travel to Fiscardo in Kefalonia by car & ferry!

This summer we came up with a great idea for your holidays! What about a road trip to Kefalonia?

Travelling with your own car has some significant benefits. You can be safe, avoid all the last minute flights cancellations and design your own flexible schedule anytime during the summer season. Ιmagine all the valuable time you will spend with your loved ones in privacy, the amazing landscape you will see and the millions of photos you will take!

It sounded really interesting so we were tempted to research online and organize at one place all the useful information. There are two ways that you can entre Greece and drive/sail towards Fiscardo port, travelling by ship from Italy or driving through the North Greek land borders.*

From Italy to Fiscardo, Kefalonia Island

Starting your journey at noon from Italy, you will arrive in Greece the next day, early in the morning, at the port of Igoumenitsa. Then it’s an easy, tireless drive to Nydri in Lefkas island (1h 51min) from where you can take the ferry (1hr 45min) and arrive at Fiscardo within the same day.

The most trustworthy ship company, Superfast Ferries offers a daily connection between Italy and Greece, all year.
Choose the port of Ancona, Venice or Bari and travel by ship to the port of Igoumenitsa in West Greece.

The timetable for the summer season 2021 from Italy to Greece has already been announced!


This is a summary of Greek government’s protocol regarding arrivals at sea borders*. You can read more here https://travel.gov.gr/#/top.

You will be requested to:

  • arrive at the checkpoint together with your passport.
  • hold a negative molecular test result (PCR) for COVID19, performed up to 72 hours before their entry to Greece.**

Travellers should perform a RT-PCR test PCR of oropharyngeal or nasopharyngeal swab. The authorized laboratory should give the certificate in English and bear the name and passport/national ID number of the traveller. Children under 10 years old are not subject to the obligation to a PCR test.

  • have submitted the PLF form through the platform https://travel.gov.gr up to twenty four (24) hours latest prior their arrival.
  • complete a screening test or continue to the exit (in case you do not hold a negative molecular test result (PCR) for COVID19).

All travellers are subject to random screening testing upon arrival to the Greek border by a trained health team.

*The current research does not include information regarding quarantine restrictons for travellers entering and leaving Greece.

**There is a possibility that this procedure could be replaced by a pan-EU coronavirus vaccine certificate.

Book your ship tickets from Italy to Greece .

You can cancel your ship ticket at the travel agency, port agency, Premium Sales Agent or at the offices of the Company where the reservation and payment were made. Read below the standard cancellation and refund policy of the company:

  • A 100% refund, up to 22 days prior to departure.
  • A 80% refund, from 21 days up to 8 days prior to departure.
  • A 50% refund, from 7 days to 24 hours prior to departure.
  • The Company has no obligation to refund in case of cancellations made less than 24 hours prior to ship’s departure or if the passenger does not report at check-in.
  • In the event of a partial cancellation of a round trip of which one crossing has been completed, the passenger will be refunded as above (based on the time of cancellation) for the crossing that is not completed.
  • In the event of a whole cancellation of a round trip, the passenger will be refunded as above (based on the time of cancellation).

Moreover, you have the alternative to convert your ticket to OPEN date tickets or to another departure date up to four (4) hours prior to ship’s departure.

Follow the Egnatia Odos motorway for the first 20 minutes and then you will be driving at a coastal road until you reach your destination at Nydri port, Lefkas island. Please follow this google map link here with route directions from Igoumenitsa port towards Nydri port in Lefkas island.

The below timetable is an example from the previous summer months.

Nydri –> Fiscardo:

Daily at 09:00 & 13:30

Fiscardo –> Nydri:

Daily at 11:15 & 15:45


Please read carefully all the measures and regulations that apply before/during the trip and download the pre-boarding form.

In a few words, boarding can be denied if:

  • a passenger shows the main symptoms of Corona Virus like fever, cough, sore throat, runny nose, shortness of breath, and other respiratory symptoms or
  • the “Pre-boarding” form indicates contact with a Corona Virus patient, or
  • non-compliance with the rules of NHPO (use of face mask, maintaining distances of 1.5 meters), or
  • a higher than 37.8˚C temperature is detected during the measurement of a passenger’s temperature (electronic distance thermometers will be used).


This is a local small ferry line and it is never too busy. It does not provide an online booking engine. Therefore, you can only reserve (hold) your tickets by email or phone. The travel agent in Lefkas, suggested us to make a reservation 15 days in advance.

In case of a travel ban or any change of plans, you just cancel your ticket even one day prior arrival, with no cost.

From North Greek land borders to Fiscardo, Kefalonia Island

As long as you cross the North Greek land borders, you will be driving on a modern motorway of high standards until your reach the port of Nydri in Lefkas Island. Nydri port is connected to Fiscardo port (in Kefalonia Island) with a small local ferry line with two itineraries (forward and back) everyday. The duration of the trip is 1 hr 45min.

Firstly, take the E90 Egnatia Odos motorway with direction to Xirovouni area (A5).

Then, get on the highway of Filippiadas Prevezas (E55, E952) and continue to the highway Amfilochias Lefkadas. Your destination is Nydri port in Lefkas so the last route is on the provincial road Lefkas – Vasilikis (after passing Lygia area, you will be driving at a coastal road with great sea views over Ionian Sea.
